Entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 30, 2011, Carol Ann Buchanan. She was born on Saturday, August 19, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter of the late William James and Helen Cecelia McKay Buchanan. Carol graduated from Bishop England High School and attended Palmer Business College. Carol was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Women's Guild. She was previously active in the Metropolitan Civitan Club. She was instrumental in the founding and success of the James A. McAlister Funeral home where she worked as an administrative assistant. Carol was a loving mother, caring friend, and beloved "Nana" for her two grandchildren. She valued her religion, her friends, her family and she lived the life of a devout Christian. She is at peace and we thank God for her presence with us here and know she touched the lives of many. She was predeceased by her son, Fr. Scott J.A. Buchanan and her brother, Col. William James Buchanan, USA (Ret)
She is survived by her son, Gray McKay Buchanan, Ph.D. and his wife, April Odom Buchanan, M.D. her brother, Byron (Barry) Robert Buchanan, her grandchildren: Zachary McKay Buchanan and Allison Elizabeth Buchanan. The relatives and friends of Carol Ann Buchanan are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 4, 2011, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends this Wednesday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. A Vigil Service will begin at 6:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Father Scott J. A. Buchanan Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o College of Charleston Foundation, 66 George Street, Charleston, SC 29424 or the Seminarian Fund c/o Diocese of Charleston, 119 Broad Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
