Ellen Augusta (Moore) was born July 11, 1877 in Hanover and was the daughter of James and Agnes (Nesbitt) Moore. She graduated from Hanover High School in 1895 and attended Tarkio College in Missouri. Augusta married the Reverend Hugh Brownlow Speer on June 19, 1902 and three sons were born to this union: James R. Speer, Hugh Brownlow Speer, and Wallace Hamilton Speer. Beings her husband was a Presbyterian minister the family lived in many different communities, such as: Dovina Center, New York; Omaha, Nebraska; and Pittsburgh and Erie, Pennsylvania. The last church the Reverend Speer served was in Sugar Tree Grove, Illinois. They retired to Hanover in 1950. Augusta died in May 1970 in Pittsburgh and is buried in Log Church Cemetery.
