Barrington Review- Aug. 4, 1927

Mrs. Elizabeth Bierman died at West Side Hospital, Chicago, last Saturday, following an operation for peritonitis. She had been in failing health for a year.

Her death, which ended a useful life of over 69 years, caused deep regret among her large relationship and still larger circle of friends.

Mrs. Biermann, nee Cella, was born March 8, 1959. Her girlhood days were spent in Plum Grove, near Barrington, until her marriage to Herman Bierman of Elk Grove. Eight children were born, six of whom survive. Mrs. John Thies of Barrington, William of Palatine, Newton, Emil, Mrs. John Fitzmorris and George, all of Chicago. Besides the husband she was preceded in death by the eldest son, Frank of Barrington and Lawrence, who died in infancy. Two half brothers and one half sister survive. They are Fred, William and Frank Hilmes, all of Chicago and Mrs. Eliza Jennings of Forest Park.

Twenty-one grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive. Many relatives and friends attended the funeral from Chicago, Elgin, and Itasca.

Ten years of the married life of the Biermanns' were spent on a farm near Palatine, following which they made their home in Chicago. A few years ago Mrs. Biermann moved to Berwyn where she lived at the time of her death.

She was a devoted Christian and a life-long member of the Evangelical church. She and her husband were largely instrumental in the beginning and development of the Elk Grove Evangelical church.

The funeral was held on Tuesday from the home in Berwyn and from Salem church, interment being in Evergreen cemetery. The services were in charge of the pastor, Rev. J. W. Davis. The music was furnished by Mesdames Cannon, Hawley, and Cadwallender. The floral offerings were many and beautiful.
