Eugene ‘Gene Bell' Bell -- Orangeburg

The funeral for Mr. Eugene "Gene Bell" Bell, 81, of 1850 St. Matthews Road, Apt. 304C, Orangeburg, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at St. Mark United Methodist Church, North. Burial will be in St. Mark East Cemetery (formerly Canaan UMC Cemetery), North.

Mr. Eugene Bell, affectionately known as "Gene Bell," made his transition to be with the Lord on Monday, April 29, 2013, at his residence in Orangeburg. He was the son of the late William Bell Sr. and Essie Lou Leysath Bell and was born on April 11, 1932, in Wolfton. Eugene was the seventh of 10 children.

Eugene became a member of Canaan United Methodist Church at an early age. He attended Wilkinson High School and later became skilled as an automobile mechanic. Eugene retired as owner of a body shop. He also served his country faithfully and patriotically from 1953 to 1955 with the United States Army. He received numerous medals, including. the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Meritorious Unit Citation. Eugene received an honorable discharge upon exiting his patriotic duties to his country.

Eugene married MacPhine Jones Bell, and this union was blessed with three children.

Eugene was preceded in death by six brothers, John Clay, George, Jacob, William, Matthew and Henry Bell; two sisters, Inez Hibbler and Ruth Hook; and a sister-in-law, Anna Lou Bell.

Cherishing Eugene's precious memories are a daughter, Valerie (Jerry) Robinson of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Calvin (Sylvia) Bell and Steven Bell, both of Orangeburg; two sisters, Hattie Lou (Marion) Amaker of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Wilhemina Long of Winston-Salem, N.C.; grandchildren L'Maro (Katrina) Bell, Tega Bell, Tylee, Shannon Fersner and Leon Jackson III; six sisters-in-law, Doris Benjamin, Rose Ella Bell, Mary Jones and Ruth Ann Ford, all of Orangeburg, Darlene Jones of Columbia, and Odessa Bell of Bridgeport, Conn.; three special nieces that he held closely to his heart, Lydia Williams, Lula Brown and Pearline Mae Hall; and a host of other loving nieces and nephews, loving cousins and caring friends.

Sacred arrangements are entrusted to Dash's Funeral Home of Orangeburg.
