OBITUARY :
IRVIN P. BEARD, JR., 79, of 67 Twin Hill Drive, Waynesboro, died Sunday, Feb. 1, in Hershey Medical Center.

Born Feb. 6, 1918 in Baltimore, Md., he was a son of the late Irvin P., Sr. and Frances Lorence Honodel Beard. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia Catherine Himler Beard.

Mr. Beard was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, Waynesboro; B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 731 and Eagles Club Inc., both of Waynesboro; and National AARP.

He was a 1936 graduate of Forest Park High School, Baltimore.

In 1940, he was employed as a machinist at the Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. He returned to Baltimore in 1946 and was employed by Western Electric, Bethlehem Steel, and finally for Diecraft. When he moved to Rouzerville in 1953, he worked for Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing, Hagerstown, Md. From April 1962 until his retirement on Jan. 1, 1983, he was employed in the tool and dye department at Mack Truck, Hagerstown.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Marie Lorene Orvas of Chambersburg, and Sylvia C. Creager of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Betty White of Reno, Nev.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Frances Biser and Mary Ann Beard, and one brother, James Crawford Beard.

A Mass of Chritian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in St. Andrew-Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hemier as celebrant. Interment will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. A wake service will be held at 8.

Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Andrew Catholic School, 12 N. Broad St., Wavnesboro, 17268.
