Frances Baucum Smith, 84, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in Lufkin. Services will be 1:00 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Revs. Lee Welch and Gayle Baucum officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.
Born in Jones County, Frances was a daughter of the late B.W. and Alcie (Weaver) Baucum. She married Weldon Smith September 20, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1990. Frances was a sales agent for Bankers Life and Casualty Life Insurance Company for 30 years. She was a member of the AARP and the Senior Citizens Activity Center. Frances was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels for over 30 years and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Five brothers (Tom Baucum, Walter Baucum, Joe Baucum, Shelby Baucum, and Weaver Baucum) and one sister (Zona Goza) preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Rod Pittman of Lufkin, Jeanette and Steve Feagan of Hamlin, and Pam and Jay Johnson of Liberty Hill; a brother-in-law and his wife, T.A. and Dorothy Smith, of Abilene; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Moss of DeSoto and Lola Mae Baucum of Lubbock; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
