Bernard Batten, 76, died early Thursday morning (Aug. 21, 2003) at the Savannah Beach Nursing Home on Tybee Island.
A native of Pierce County, GA, he had lived in Hollywood, Fla. for many years before returning to Pierce County in 1962. He was retired from the maintenance department at Satilla Regional Medical Center. He was an army veteran and he was of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Joseph Nathaniel and Hattie Altman Batten.
Survivors include his wife, Betty W. Batten of Blackshear; one daughter, Patricia Ann Britt of Blackshear; two sons, James Robert (wife Louise) Batten of Waynesville and Felton B. (wife Shelia) Batten of Blackshear; three sisters, Martha Nettles of Lake City, Mae Howell of Blackshear and Lois Lee of Blackshear; six grandchildren, Billy Britt, Lisa Aspinwall, Jason Batten, Luke Batten, Felton W. Batten and Timothy J. Batten; nine great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Pearson- Treadwell Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Sammy Chancey.
Burial will be in the Offerman Cemetery.
Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home is in charge of Arrangements.
