Cordova - Ginger Bass Fogle, 63, of Cordova, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, after a brief illness. Born in Orangeburg, Ginger was the only daughter of the late Caleb Hansel and Hazel Virginia (Baldwin) Bass of Cordova. She graduated from Edisto High School in 1968 and Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College in 1970. In 1972, Ginger married Gilbert Lawton Fogle Jr. of Cope, and the couple had two children. Ginger worked primarily as a bookkeeper in the construction business and was retired at the time of her death. She was an active lifetime member and treasurer of Wesley Grove United Methodist Church in Cordova. A lifelong advocate for children and adults with disabilities, Ginger was a former president and vice president of the Orangeburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board (formerly the Orangeburg Association for Retarded Children and Orangeburg Association for Retarded Citizens). She leaves her husband Gilbert; her daughter Robin, and her husband Matt Kurz of Baton Rouge, La.; and her son Jason and his wife Cheryl (Collins) Fogle of Aiken. She also leaves three granddaughters, Cady and Shelbi Kurz, both of Clemson, and Jaylen Fogle of Aiken. Ginger is survived by a brother, Henry and his wife Harriett (Fogle) Bass; and a brother Phil and his wife Susan (Murden) Bass, all of Cordova. She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews and her best friend of more than four decades, Donna (Field) Ott of Bamberg. Ginger was predeceased by her parents and her older brother, Ray Bass. The family will receive visitors between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m. Friday, March 29, at the residence of Phil and Susan Bass, 241 Wesley Grove Road, Cordova. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Wesley Grove United Methodist Church, 515 Wesley Grove Road, Cordova, with the Rev. Lois Helms officiating. The family will also receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. To honor Ginger's memory, the family requests that those attending the memorial service wear something in her favorite color, red.
