Mary Lou Barela passed away on Friday, February 6, 2014 at Nolan Nursing and Rehab Center. She was 75 years old.
Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Reverend Jake Wood officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.
Mary was raised in Sweetwater until the age of 18, moved away, and then moved back to Sweetwater 15 years ago. She was a graduate of Newman High School, class of 1957. On July 27, 1958, Mary married Clovis Barela in Los Angeles, California. She worked many years as a clerk for an insurance company. Mary was a member of Highland Heights United Methodist Church and was a member of the choir and had served on the Evangelism Committee for a time.
Survivors include: Daughter-Mary E. Barela of Sweetwater; Sons-Alan Bardwell and his wife, Stephanie, of Surry, VA and David Russell Barela of Sweetwater; Granddaugther- Natalie Barela of Sweetwater.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clovis Barela; her parents, Weldon and Berta Lea Bardwell; and her step-mother, LaRue Bardwell.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
