Services were held in Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville, for Irene M. Balthaser, formerly of Main Street, Bernville, who died July 25 in Berks Heim where she had resided four years. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Centre Township. She was predeceased by her husband, John H. Balthaser, who died in 1978. Born in Centre Township, she was the daughter of the late Elmer J. and Annie (Saul) Bagenstose. Until retiring in 1964, she was employed as a sewing machine operator by Fein and Glass Shoe Factory, Bernville. She a member of the Lutheran congregation of Salem (Belleman's) Union Church, Centre Township. Surviving are two sons, Kermit W. Balthaser, Rehrersburg, and J. Paul Balthaser, Bernville, and three daughters: Gladys J. (Balthaser) Weidman, Marilyn J. (Balthaser) Burkhart, and Evelyn F. (Balthaser) Fox, all of Bernville. Other survivors include a sister, Louella (Bagenstose) Shellhammer, Leesport. There are also 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Kenneth E. Balthaser.
