She was the daughter of the late Alonza and Lottie Pearl Wilmer of Covington, Va. Mary Jo was a resident of Newport News for 54 years.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Elwood Ball; her brother, Leonard; and four sisters, Laura, Virginia, Mildred and Martha.
Mary Jo leaves to cherish her memories her son, James Ball and his wife, Jamie; her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Peter Knight, Lynda and Mason Dunkley, Ann and Jere Null, Nancy and Todd Rose, Jenny and Curtis Jones; her 12 grandchildren; her sister, Jean Clarkson and her husband, Bruce; and brother and sister-in-law, Elmo and Ginger Ball; and brother-in-law, Dennis Gibbs.
Mary Jo dedicated her life to sharing Christ's love with her family and friends, and numerous Christian causes. She leaves a legacy of faith, kindness and devotion. Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God. Matt 5:8.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at the funeral home with burial to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
