Ollie B. Burnett, age 101 of Squire, WV died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at her home. She was born February 28, 1911 at Glen Alum, WV and was the oldest daughter of the late Elmer and Hester Ann Griffith. Mrs. Burnett was a very independent lady who enjoyed cooking and making friends; she never met a stranger. She was known for her famous homemade rolls and meatloaf. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her family was her life, she loved them all, and they loved her in return. She will be missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde H. Burnett, Sr., whom she married on June 23, 1928; two sons, Clyde Burnett, Jr. and Douglas Burnett; four brothers, Walter, Homer, Emory, and Edgar Griffith; two sisters, Mary Crabtree, and Pauline Odum.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Miley and husband, Harold of Virginia Beach, VA, Kathleen Beattie of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Sandra Whitt and husband, Clarence of Centreville, VA; one son, Jack Burnett and wife, Lucy of Tazewell, VA; two sisters, Anna Whited of Hanover, WV, and Virginia Novak and husband, Jerry of Cleveland, OH; twelve grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend and caregiver, Barbara Taylor.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ollie B. Burnett will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the Hurst – Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. Clemmie Jones and Rev. Roger Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 19, 2012.
