Merritt, Shirley Atchley – age 79 of Knox County passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013. She was a member of Thorn Grove Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star-Kodak Lodge. She was retired from JFG Coffee. Preceded in death by devoted husband, Arless Merritt; father, Mack Atchley; mother, Dulcie Atchley Thomas; grandmother, Hattie Newman; sisters, Emily Atchley Humphery and Maxine Atchley Lee; and brother-in-law, Bill Deaton. Survived by brother,Tom and Peggy Atchley; sister, Joyce Deaton; brothers-in-law, Ronnie and Lorene Merritt, Phil and Marvin Merritt; special nieces and nephews, Steve and Carol Griffin and family, Cheri and Chris Bell and family, Emily and Bobby Stanton and family, Janice and John Cox and family, Randy Merritt, and David Merritt. Special thanks to Northhaven HealthCare Center, Hospice, and UT Hospital. Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Friday, April 19, 2013, at Thorn Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Tatum and Rev. Ted Padgett officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Thorn Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 10200 Thorn Grove Pike, Strawberry Plains, TN 37871.
