WILLIAM HARRELL ATCHLEY, 83, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008 after a brief illness. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Air Force in the Pacific. He was employed as a mechanic working 28 years at Southern Motors, which later became Madison Cadillac. He retired from Bluff City Buick in 1987. Mr. Atchley was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all of those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, William Vaiden Atchley and his mother, Mattie Harrell Atchley. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, LaVerne Campbell Atchley; a sister, Betty Atchley Brewer of Quitman, MS; a brother, Fred Atchley of San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Donna Thurmond-Smith; two grandsons, Daniel Bradley Angus and Jeremy David Angus; and a granddaughter, Natalie Erin Thurmond, all from Memphis, TN. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28 at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 29 at Balmoral Baptist Church, 2676 Kirby Rd. The interment will be private in Memory Hill Gardens, 3700 N.
