Mabel was born on November 28, 1923 in Carey, Idaho, the daughter of Oldrick and Arta Nelson, and was raised and lived in the Ustick area all of her life. She graduated in 1941 from Meridian High School.
On March 25, 1943 she married Gilbert E. Armstrong. Mabel worked in the hot lunch program for the Meridian School District, while raising her family. She was very involved in the activities and support of the Ustick PTA, carnivals, and other school activities. Most of her time was dedicated to taking care of her family and their home. She helped sell vegetables from the family garden and canned many of them for the family.
Mabel is survived by her son, Gary Armstrong (Janet), of Bellingham WA; daughter, Linda Young (Shane Miller) of Boise; grandchildren, Travis Armstrong (Beth), Chanda Armstrong and Chase Young; great-grandchildren, Katiree, Tate, Zane and Kezia; brothers, George Nelson and Rex Nelson (Ruby); and sisters-in-law, Betty Nelson, of Boise, and Jody Hartgraves, of Stockton, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert, her parents, brothers, Glenn and Oscar Nelson, sister-in-law, Viola Nelson, infant son, James Clyde Armstrong, and a son, Robert Glenn Armstrong.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Cloverdale Funeral Home, 1200 N. Cloverdale Road in Boise. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 10, 2012 also at Cloverdale Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cloverdale Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Mabel. A special thank you to the Overland Spring Creek Assisted Living and XL Hospice for the wonderful loving care Mabel received from the staff.
