MARY ENOCH ANDREW IS SUMMONED
Aged Woman Who Passed Away Yesterday at Home on North Church Street Came to Winnebago County With Parents in 1836. Brothers Were Prominent in Business Affairs of Rockford - Wives of Three Brothers Die Within Month. Other Deaths.
Mrs. Mary Jane Enoch Andrew, wife of J.J. Andrew, passed away Sunday morning at 5 o'clock at the home at 515 North Church Street, and by her death one of the oldest settlers of Winnebago County passed away, for she came to this section in 1836 when the county was a wilderness.
Mrs. Andrew had been sick for about eleven months and for some weeks it has been known that she could not survive. Her children were at her bedside at the time of her death.
Mary Jane Enoch was born in Butler County, Ohio, September 1, 1831. With her parents, she came to Winnebago County in 1836, the family residing in Guilford township. There she was married in 1853 to J. J. Andrew. Since that time, she has lived in Rockford, her husband being for years in the soap manufacturing business, but having retired now.
Her father was one of the first settlers, and was prominent in the early history of the county. Her brothers, Abraham I. Enoch and H. R. Enoch, were both prominet in Rockford business affairs. The former was of the manufacturing firm of Briggs & Enoch, for many years on the water power, and for a term a member of the house at Springfield. The latter was proprietor of the old Rockfprd Journal and a county official a long time ago. From here he moved to Washington, where he had an official position. She is the last of the family of that generation.
Mrs. Andrews was a member of the Court Street Church, and Rev. H. L. Martin will officiate at the funeral service which is to be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home. Interment will be in the West Side Cemetery.
The deceased is survived by her husband, and by four sons and one daughter. The daughter is Miss Minnie Andrew of Rockford. The sons are J. D. Andrew of Evanston, Frank H. Andrew od Chicago and H. D. Andrew and Fred Andrew of Rockford.
Within nine months past, the wives of three brothers of the Andrew family have passed away. the death of Mrs. J. J. Andrew follows the death of Mrs. Mathew Andrew of Galesburg and Mrs. William Andrew of Guilford.
