Leola: Funeral services for Lavina Albrecht, 93, of Leola will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola, with Pastor Dianne Rood Kiesz officiating.

Burial will be at Green Mound Cemetery in Leola.

Lavina died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., in Aberdeen.

Lavina Rueb was born April 6, 1919, to Jacob F. and Magdalena (Lechner) Rueb on the family homestead in rural McPherson County. She attended country school in rural Leola. Following school, she worked in various homes, taking care of children for families. She then worked at Tiffany Laundry in Aberdeen.

On Oct. 6, 1940, Lavina was united in marriage to Emil J Albrecht in Long Lake. Five children were added to this union. They farmed 12 miles west of Leola, then moved six miles southwest of Leola and bought a farm. In 1955, the family moved into Leola. Lavina worked at the Leola Hospital until its closing, then went on to work at Presentation College for 14 years, where she was head cook until retiring due to health.

Lavina was active at Leola First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and served on the Ladies Aid as president and treasurer. Lavina later became a member of St. James Lutheran of Leola. She was also a member of the Leola Senior Citizens. Lavina loved to sing, cook, bake and crochet for family and friends.

Grateful for having shared Lavina's life are daughter, Eileen (LeRoy) Schock, Leola; son, Stanley (Lavonne) Albrecht, Aberdeen; daughter, Dianne Benzley, Aurora, Colo.; son, Wallace (Fran) Albrecht, Aberdeen; daughter, Pamela (Curtis) Walz, Leola; sisters: Erline (Albert) Fischer, Madison Wis., and Adeline Lochner, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; sisters-in-laws: Sally Kushman and Vivian Rueb, both of Aberdeen; grandchildren: Ryan Albrecht, Scott (Leah) Albrecht, Brianne Benzley, Brittany Benzley, Reid Albrecht, Laura Albrecht, Brian (Marlys) Walz and Becky (Tod) Sprouse; great-grandchildren: Mason Albrecht, Skyelar Albrecht, Alexander Albrecht, Zackary Walz, Wyatt Sprouse and Riley Sprouse; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil J Albrecht; parents, Jacob and Magdalena Rueb; brothers: Edward Rueb, Walter Rueb, Harold Rueb, Wesley Rueb and Willis Rueb; and sisters: Frieda Schell and Florence Albrecht.
