Afton woman killed in automobile accident
An Afton woman, Mrs Bardella Hillyard Barrus Call, 48, wife of Farnham Call, was killed in an automobile accident Monday afternoon, July 22, at about 2:16 p.m.
Mrs Call was reportedly driving south on Highway U.S. 89 near the north city limits of Afton when her car went out of control veered off the highway to the left, crossed the lawn of the Lester Hale residence and then struck a tree across a ditch. Mrs Call was killed instantly and the car was completely demolished. She was the sole occupant.
Funeral services were scheduled Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Afton Second=Third Ward Chapel under the direction of the Second Ward Bishopric.. Burial will be in the Afton Cemetery.

Funeral services were held July 25 in the Afton Second-Third Ward Chapel at 2 p.m. with Bp Larry A. Call of the Second Ward conducting for Bardella Hillyard Barrus Call, 48, who was killed in a one car accident on the outskirts of Afton on July 22, 1974. Burial was in the Auburn Cemetery.
She was born Sept 21, 1925 at Afton, Wyo. to Enoch and Elona Gardner Hillyard. They lived at Auburn, first on a ranch to the north, then moving into town where her father purchased and operated a store and her mother became postmistress. She attended elementary school at Auburn and graduated from the Star Valley High School in Afton, where she won honors in music and band. She played an alto clarinet and won statewide honors for this talent. She also was Seminary Harvest Ball Queen.
She attended L.D.S. Business College in Salt Lake City.
She married Boyd Wendell Barrus of Afton, who was in the U.S. Marine Corps. Nov. 16, 1944, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Seven children were born to them. they were divorced Jan 22, 1966 and Bardella married Farnham L. Call of Afton, June 27, 1967 at Salt Lake City.
After her marriage she lived all her life in Afton. She was active in the LDS Church, where she was a choir member, organist in Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society, a teacher in Primary and Sunday school, a flannel board demonstrator and librarian, assisted in genealogical research and did temple work.
She had many talents, and exhibited many items in county fairs, especially flowers, participated in parades, honor program and birthday recognitions, worked with class reunion committees, was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and was a good neighbor.
She is survived by her husband Farnham L. Call; parents, Enoch and Elona Hillyard, Afton; sons and daughters, Bruce L. Barrus, Brigham City, Utah; Tom W. Barrus, Salt Lake City, Utah; Jon E. Barrus, Casper Wyo.; Amelia S. Barrus, Ogden, Utah; Chad E. Barrus, Mary L. Barrus and Linda K. Barrus, all Afton; five grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs Max E. (Beth) Call, Manti, Utah.
