Enoch Hillyard, 83, former Auburn farmer and rancher for many years, and Afton motel owner for 18 years, died Thursday Jan. 27, 1977 at Manti, Utah of congestive heart failure. He and his wife Elona had moved to Manti, only three months ago.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan 29, at 1 p.m. in the Afton Second-Third Ward Chapel, with Counselor O. David Gardner of the Third Ward conducting. Burial was in the Auburn Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 4797.

At age 16 he assumed responsibility for the family's welfare when his father became permanently crippled. They arrived in Star Valley June 13, 1912, settling in Auburn.

When he moved to Afton in 1958, he built the Hillyard Motel, which he and his wife operated until 1976.
He installed the first sprinkler irrigation system in Star Valley on his property near Afton. This operation increased yield so much that others soon began using the same system.
