Gaylen was born the son of Otto & Theoline Olson Benson. He was baptized and confirmed at Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley, MN. On January 28, 1951 Gaylen was united in marriage to Zelma R. Van Klei in Lake Wilson, MN. Gaylen proudly served his country in WWII and was staioned in the Philipines. He enjoyed being part of the bowling league, playing baseball, and watching the Minnesota Twins. Gaylen liked vegetable and pumpkin gardening, lutefisk, and working outside. Gaylen passed away at the Ridgeview Medical Center.

Gaylen & Zelma are the parents of Teresa (Matt) Newby.

Funeral services were held March 27 from Lyndale Lutheran Church in Maple Plain, Rev. Gale Reitan officiating.
