William H Asmussen, 82, Brewster, died Monday at his home.
Mr. Asmussen was born Oct. 15, 1896, at Vermillion, SD. He moved with his parents in 1902 to Douglas, and in 1903 the family homesteaded in Douglas County.
During World War I, Mr. Asmussen served in the US Army. From the 1920s to the early 1906s he farmed a wheat ranch in Douglas County. He then owned and operated an orchard in the Methow Valley until his retirement in 1974.
He married Ignacia Castillo on March 7, 1968, at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Mr. Asmussen was a member of the American Legion and past mater of the Bridgeport Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Ignacia, at home; a son, Maurice, Methow, a daughter, Janice Glover, Hammond, Ill., two adopted children, Martha and William, both of Brewster; two brothers, Harold, Mansfield and John, Seattle; three sisters, Nellie Smith of Mansfield, Lela McKee of Grand Coulee and Hazel Henton of Bridgeport; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Asmussen was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 26, at 2pm from the Barnes Chapel in Brewster with Rev. Ray Glessner officiating. Interment was in the Brewster Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Heart Fund or the charity of your choice. Barnes Chapel, Brewster, was in charge of arrangements.
