Brooksye Violet Graves Bruce
Memphis- formerly of Ripley- Brooksye passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Ave Maria Nursing Home in Memphis. She was born February 21, 1925 to the late Holcomb and Lilly Graves of Ripley, MS. Brooksye was a long time member of the Quince Road Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School for many years. She worked until she was 75 years of age in the family business with her husband John Bruce at Bruce Motor Co. She loved exercise and went daily to the spa. Brooksye loved to garden and grew many of her own vegetables and she loved to cook. She was active in her neighborhood association and always willing to help anyone with a need. She was loyal to a fault and would do anything for a friend. Brooksye was a devoted loving mother, grandmother to her five grandchildren, and aunt for her many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with Minister King McCarver officiating. Burial will be in Beech Hill Church of Christ Cemetery.

Brooksye is survived by one son, Tommy Bruce (Rebekah) of Germantown, TN; one daughter-in-law, Vicki Bruce Wheeler of Mt Ida, AR; one sister, Jamie Rooker (Melvin "Boogan") of Ripley, MS; one brother, Hines Graves (Dimple) of Ripley, MS; five grandchildren, Wesley, Tricia and Jordan Bruce, Jill Fields (Tommy) and Leah Dumas (Mike); four great-grandchildren, Payton and Reagan Dumas and Ave Kate and Phillip Fields.

Pallbearers will be Wesley Bruce, Jordan Bruce, Mike Hurst, Mike Graves, Michael Dees and Jackie Rooker.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, John William Bruce; her parents; one son, Phillip Graves Bruce; and one great-grandchild, Park Dumas.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Madonna Learning Center.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, Wednesday, at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel.
