Polacca attended school at St. Catherine's in Santa Fe, St. Michaels, and BYU in Provo, Utah. Polacca was a teacher and a civil servant. She retired from teaching for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1975. After retirement, she was a part-time rancher and farmer in Crystal. Polacca leaves behind a legacy of hard work, independence and self-assertion.
Survivors include her sisters, Loncie Brown of Crystal, Frances Toney of Crownpoint.
Polacca was preceded in death by her parents, Howella and Ruth Arviso Polacca; son, Irvin Peshlakai; siblings, Dorothy Dixon, Marilyn Polacca, Dixie Dixon, Percy Polacca, Lafie Polacca, Howella Polacca Jr.
