A Standard History of Jasper and Newton Counties Indiana, Vol. 1, p. 175-176, under the subtitle "Kenoyer Settlement" states that "... Josiah Dunn and John Elliott are known to have been in the county, on the Iroquois, as early as 1832...."
The 1840 US Census Washington Township, Tippecanoe County, Indiana lists John Elliott, a wife, two sons and 3 daughters.
John's wife, Rebecca Steele Elliott passed away 04 May 1844. She was buried at the Tea Cemetery, Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
In 1847 John Elliott married a second time to Mira (Mariah) Moore, also a widow, on 15 April 1847.
The 1850 US Census Perry Township, Tippecanoe County, Indiana shows John, Mariah, with three daughters and one son.
John Elliott's will was probated in mid 1862 so he must have died late 1861 or early 1862. His will indicated that he owned land in Washington and Perry Townships, Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
John's second wife, Mariah Moore Elliott passed away 12 Oct 1863 and was buried at the Tea Cemetery, Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
