Mrs. Katie Gruber. resident Here Since 1880, Dies Monday

Mrs. Katie Gruber, 86, a resident of the Loup Valley since 1880, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Fafeita Monday. Services will be held Thursday morning from the church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with Fr. Thomas Siudowski officiating. Pallbearers are John Kokes jr., Emil Kokes, Rudolph Kokes, Edw. Penas, Rudolph Hosek and Adolph Kokes. Burial is in Ord cemetery.
Mrs. Gruber was the daughter of Joseph and Anna Varka Kokes and was born at Bella, Czechoslovakia on June 26, 1871. She came to America with her father, brother and sister and settled in Valley county in 1880. She married Emanuel W. Gruber of St. Paul on Nov. 25, 1896. The couple had two children, Emanuel Gruber of Los Angeles and Mrs. Lydia Fafeita of Ord.
After their marriage they lived in St. Paul until 1899 then moved to Ord where she had lived since. Her husband, better known as Will, died in 1941. Survivors include her son and daughter, a brother Charles Kokes of Ord, and five grandchildren . A sister and five brothers preceded her in death.
