Banker; born in Bohemia, March 16, 1866; son of Joseph and Anna (Borka) Kokes; educated public schools and realschule, Bohemia; married, Wahoo, Neb., Sept. 20, 1892, Lydia Ledvina; one son. Came to the United States alone and settled at Ord, Valley County, Neb., Dec, 1881, where started to work in drug store: opened drug store under the firm name Schaffer & Kokes at the age of 21; purchased Mr. Schaffer's Interest 1891. becoming sole owner and selling same, 1893. Cashier Ord State Bank, 1900-1908; since then president; also director Bank of Scotia. Scotia, Neb. Elected county clerk of Valley County, Neb., four consecutive terms; served on City Council, Board of Education and city treasurer of Ord, Neb. Republican; Catholic. Knight of Pythias. United Workman. Address: Ord.
