OBITUARY
Funeral services were held at the St. Rose of Lima church here at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday for Lawrence Dugal, 72, who passed away in sleep at his home Saturday morning, the victim of a heart attack.
Fr. Jos. Wagner was celebrant at the Solemn Requiem High Mass; Fr. Robert Agnew of St. Olaf's Catholic church, Eau Claire, was the deacon and Fr. John Hodges was sub-deacon. Burial was in the St. Rose of Lima cemetery, where military rites were also conducted by the Henry P. Svetlik post of the Cadott American Legion, of which Dugal was a charter member.
Pallbearers were Norman Panzenhagen, Joe Chapek, Tom Tobola, Stanley Thompson, Kenneth Oskey, and Jos. Boss. The parish rosary was recited Monday evening at the Leiser Funeral Home.
Dugal, a long time community businessman active in the Cadott Lions club, United Commercial Travelers, and the Chamber of Commerce for many years, enjoyed a wide circle of acquaintances and friends in the area, and news of his sudden death was met with shock and sorrow. He had been in generally good health, and, the evening prior to his death, had enjoyed dining and attending the theater with his son, Peter, and grandson, Dennis.
He was born in Chippewa Falls on July 9, 1891. After several years of residence in Canada, he returned to this country and Cadott shortly before the first world war; after service with the AEF with the Eightieth Division, Dugal once more returned to Cadott where he first operated a store and later owned and operated a bowling alley and recreation parlor on Main street. During this time, in the 1920s, he served as village treasurer. He served as commander of the local Legion post in 1927. In 1933, he entered the oil business, erecting the station and bulk tanks on highway 29 near the west village limits.
"Larry," as he was known to his friends, was always genial and enjoyed visiting with customers and acquaintances at the station. He took a particular pride in maintaining the appearance of flower beds and shrubbery near the station and around his home, built next door to the station within recent years.
His son, Peter, a member of the administrative committee of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, and grandson Dennis are the only close survivors. His wife, the former Lillian Barrington, whom he married at St. Rose Lima church on June 23, 1926, died in 1962; two brothers and a sister also preceded him in death.
