This pioneer resident of Range, this county, died at her home on Palo Duro on Sunday. February 2. The deceased was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, September 10, 1836. She was married at the age of 16 to Samuel Ewing at Keokuk, Iowa. They moved to Oklahoma in 1888, settling near Range. She was the mother of ten children, six of whom are living. Lincoln Ewing of Range, Mrs. Kate Cox of Neosho Falls, Kansas, Mrs. Stella Armstrong and William Ewing of Guymon; Lew Ewing of Range and Mrs. Amanda Brown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mrs. Ewing united with the Baptist church in 1908. In the early days when settlers were few and homes were far apart the deceased had the good will and respect of many of the old-time cowboys for she made it a rule to make them welcome at her home and served them refreshing meals when good home cooking was the exception and not the rule, by her many kindly ways she endeared herself to all of them. With the coming of an increased number of people, she became the grand old lady of her locality, and as a result her death is mourned by both the old and the new settlers. Grandma Ewing believed life too short and the world too wide for anyone to be disagreeable, and she therefore constantly made home life pleasant for her neighbors and her sons. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Barnum of Range and the remains laid to rest in the Range cemetery.
