Miles Rites To Be Wednesday
Last rites will be here Wednesday for George W. Miles, former Fairfield resident who passed away Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at the University hospital in Iowa City.
The services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Raymond funeral home with the Rev. Donald Eagle in charge. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn cemetery.
George W. Miles, 83, was born in Van Buren county on Jan. 23, 1877, the son of George and Myra Luke Miles. He was married to Lucy Garrett in Van Buren county on July 29, 1897. She passed away Oct. 30, 1948.
He had moved to Vinton two years ago. Before his retirement and while a resident of Fairfield, he was caretaker at the Walton golf course for several years.
His survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mae Elmore (sic. May Elmore), Vinton; Mrs. Merle Kriese (sic. Hazel A Miles Kriese, May 26, 1903 - Jan. 20, 2004, where buried ?? Phoenix, Arizona), Phoenix, Ariz.; and Mrs. Paul Hagans, Fairfield; and a son, Otto (sic. Marion Otto) Miles, also of Fairfield. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
