John Boyd Atwell died at home in Lisbon at 12:50 a.m., September 11. Son of James and Martha (Boyle) Atwell, born in Marion township, Butler county, March 12, 1839. Came to Scrubgrass in 1858... carpenter trade until about fifteen years ago... farming. Married Olive Perry December 19, 1865. Nine children born, all living... James M. of Coalingo, Cal.; Floyd of New Brighton; Lee, Mrs. Anna Lockard and Mrs. Harriet Sutton, of Lisbon; Mrs. Mary Baird of Clintonville, and Misses Lottie and Susan and David at home. All present at death. One brother, Perry S. Atwell, of Mercer county, also survives. Soldier of Civil War, Sgt. in Co. E, 16th Pa. Cav. - three years... taking part in battles of Army of Potomac including Gettysburg. Wounded in right leg at Malvern Hill, mustered out at close of war. Life-long member of Associate Presbyterian church. Prohibitionist for past thirty years, G.A.R. Post of Franklin... Services at late residence Sunday, September 20, by Rev. S. B. Houston. Interment in East Unity Cemetery. Pall-bearers were nephews...
