JOHN WINANS ARMSTRONG, JR. Obituary

John Winans Armstrong Jr., 57, 6829 N. Park Ave. Ext. Warren, OH, died at 1:20pm Sunday at home following a six-month illness.

He was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Mecca, the son of John W. and Leah M. Harris Armstrong.

Before retiring in 1981, Mr. Armstrong had worked as a foreman at VanHuffel Tube Corp. for 22 years. He formerly worked at Richard's Mill in Cortland.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Wanita Saltzmann Armstrong, whom he married Aug 16, 1946; a son, John W. III of Warren; three daughters, Mrs. Rowena Moffit of Johnston, Mrs. Ramona Hurd and Mrs. Danita Davis of Warren; nine sisters, Mrs. Ila Harvey, Mrs. Joyce Guinaugh and Mrs. Sharon Rinzella of Mecca, Mrs. Clara Webb of Greene, Mrs. Jewell Craven of Azusa, Calif., Mrs. Charlotte Lynn of Southington, Mrs. Joan Mellish of Poland, Mrs. Leah Phillips of Bazetta, and Mrs. Pauline Postlewaite of Brookfield; three brothers, Charles W. of Mecca, Paul H. of Parma, and Willard of Bazetta; and three grandchildren. Three sisters, Doris Knapp, Lorraine Perkins, and Barbara Lutz preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 2pm Wednesday in Shafer-Winans Funeral home, Cortland. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Cortland.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9pm Tuesday.

The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of Trumbull County in care of the Visiting Nurses Association, 219 N. River Rd., NW
