Ervin graduated from Hanley Falls School in 1940 and went on to attend radio school in Detroit. He served in the Army Air Corps for four years as a radio operator during WWII.
Ervin married Pearl Bestland on April 24, 1943. To this union two children were born, Carol and Greg.
Ervin and Pearl owned and operated their hardware and grocery business for 35 years in Hanley Falls. In 1962 Ervin won first place at the Redwood Falls Inventor's Congress. His eyesight deteriorated, so he attended the Hines Blind Center for six weeks in Chicago in 1992.
After they retired, Ervin and Pearl spent many winters in Mission, Texas, where they made many friends. They also enjoyed time at the lake with their family.
Ervin passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011, at the Clarkfield Care Center at 88 years of age.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Pearl and children: Carol (Clayton) Pearcy and Greg (Gail) Eye; grandchildren: Mike, Terry, Tom, Eric and Kristen; six great grandchildren; and brothers: Everett Eye and James Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Clara Eye.
