The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls with the Rev. Allan E. Johnson and the Rev. Steve Weston officiating. Burial will be in East Yellow Medicine Lutheran Cemetery in Hanley Falls with military rites by the Hanley Falls American Legion Anderson-Bestland Post 127.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
James Edward Eye was born April 15, 1933, in Sandnes Township to Clarence and Clara (Gustafson) Eye. He was baptized and confirmed at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church.
Jim graduated from Hanley Falls School in 1951. He entered the Marine Corps in 1953 and was stationed at Camp Pendleton near San Diego. Jim was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1955.
On Oct. 8, 1955, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Darlene Timgren, in Hanley Falls. They farmed his family farm near Hanley Falls for 40 years until retirement in 1995. In 2003, Jim and Darlene moved to Granite Falls.
Jim was active in the Anderson-Bestland American Legion Post 127. He was a board member of the Farmer's Co-op Elevator and an active member of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Minnesota Twins and spending time with his children, grandchildren and other family members and friends.
He is survived by one son, Kevin (and Cindy) Eye of Hanley Falls; two daughters, Carla (and Al) Vanderberg of Spencer, Iowa, and Kerri (and Brian) Hoernemann of Waconia; seven grandchildren, Tony, Danny, Brady, Casey, Brendan, Kayla and Jenna; and one brother, Everett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Clara; his wife of 52 years, Darlene; and his brother, Ervin.
