On September 14, 1941, he married Mavis Thostenson at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Parsonage, officiated by Rev. Alf W. Jorgenson. To this union six children were born.
Lyman served as trustee and sexton of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church for many years. He was chairman of the Narthex Building Committee, church custodian and cemetery custodian for thirty-one years. He took much pride in his work for the church.
He was a life member of the National Farmers Union and the Hanley Falls Agriculture Museum. He also served on several boards in the Hanley Falls Public School, Hanley Falls Lumber Yard and was an A.S.C. committee member.
Lyman passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2010, at the Granite Manor at the age of 97 years, 2 months and 1 day.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mavis; brothers: Kenneth, Hiram, Milton; and sisters: Lorraine, Phyllis and Elva. He was also preceded in death by his daughters-in-law: Geri, Marge, Peggy; granddaughter Leslie Ellingson; and great grandson Brandon Ellingson.
He is survived by his children: Vernon Ellingson, Dale (Sue) Ellingson, Carol (Bruce) Tusberg, Bruce (Dianna) Ellingson, Gary Ellingson (and friend Cheryl Jones), Daniel (Linda) Ellingson; three sisters: Luverne Jacobson, Mabel Purrington, Evelyn Bihner; eleven grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
