MONTEVIDEO -- Hiram Glenn Ellingson, 87, of Montevideo died Thursday at the Granite Falls Manor.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Burial with military honors will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo, with a prayer service at 5 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
He was born May 4, 1918, in Wood Lake Township, Yellow Medicine County, to Elling and Clara (Podoll) Ellingson. He attended public school in Wood Lake and graduated in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1941 to 1945, and saw action in the Philippines.
He married Esther Swenson on Jan. 6, 1946, in Chippewa County. They lived in Montevideo and he worked for Rural Electric Association for 37 years. He moved to the Granite Falls Manor in 2004.
He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and a member of VFW Post 380 in Montevideo.
He is survived by his siblings: Lyman of Hanley Falls, Milton of Anaheim, Calif., and LuVerne, Mabel, Phyllis and Evelyn, all of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one brother and two sisters.
