Duane was born on July 27, 1930, in Terril, Iowa, to parents Orph and Era (Lown) McCoy. He moved with his family to Minnesota in 1941. Duane was baptized at the Methodist Church and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church of Stony Run Township. He graduated from Clarkfield High School and served his country in the United States Army from January of 1952 to December of 1953.
On June 9, 1957, Duane and Dorothy Swang were united in marriage. They lived in Lisbon Township for 43 years, where Duane was engaged in dairy farming, and serving on various dairy organizations and boards. Duane was active in church activities, serving as treasurer of the Bergen Cemetery Board. He also served as Lisbon Township treasurer for 24 years. He was active in the American Legion for many years. He loved gardening and flowers, plus working on wood crafts and recreational reading.
Duane is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter Kim Mead and son-in-law Ron Mead; and son Kris. He is also survived by step grandchildren JayDee and Tony Mascarre, and Ronnie and Shelly Mead, and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters: Coleen Olson, Lucille Rose, Marie Cushman, Judy VanDorpe; and brother Delbert McCoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Leland, Kenny, and Dale.
