Rosemary O. Cox, 84, of Dubuque, died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Stonehill Care Center.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a scripture wake service at 7 p.m.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1927, in Dubuque, daughter of Arthur and Marie (Duscheck) Hoffmann. She was one of eight children.

After graduating from Dubuque Senior High School, Rosemary worked in the office of Walker Shoe Store, then as secretary to the dean of students at Loras College.

She married James Cox on Oct. 7, 1950, at St. Mary's Church, Dubuque.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidery and all sorts of crafts.

She was active in the St. Columbkille's Rosary Society and volunteered with the lunch program for more than 20 years.

While she traveled extensively with her husband, visiting all 50 states, she was happiest at home with her grandchildren.

Surviving are seven children, Linette (Christian) Casavant, Jay (Barb) Cox, Steve Cox, Ron (Thyra) Cox, Doug Cox, Kyle (Barb) Cox, and Lisa (Mike) Bruning; 17 grandchildren, Joel and Lee Casavant, Dane (Chelsea) and Daniel Cox, Suzan (Jesse) Picturna, James Cox, Rachael (Nick) Ohde, Matthew, Lucas, Jacob, Nicholas, Jonathan, Marcus and James Cox and Jessica, Andrea and Kevin Bruning; four great-grandchildren, Sanders and Sawyer Cox and William and Thyra Picturna; two sisters, Pearl McMahon and Barbara (Daniel) Hanten; a brother, Jimmy (Betty) Hoffmann; and a sister-in-law, Mel Hoffmann.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James; an infant son, James; two sisters, Gloria (George) Schueler and Jeanne (Jim) O'Rourke; and two brothers, John (Peggy) Hoffmann and Thomas Hoffmann.
