James David Cox, 80, of 121 Julien Dubuque Drive, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Ennoble Manor Care Center, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from * to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a scripture wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Cox was employed by the city of Dubuque Water Department for 35 years.

He was born on Feb. 12, 1927, in Dubuque, son of Thomas and Winifred (Morgan) Cox. He was one of nine children.

He attended the former Loras Academy and served in the Army at the end of World War II.

He married Rosemary Hoffmann on Oct. 7, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Jim loved garage sale-ing, antiques, traveling and camping with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Rosemary; seven children, Linette (Christian) Casavant, Jay (Barb) Cox, Steve Cox, Ron (Thyra) Cox, Doug Cox, Kyle (Barb) Cox and Lisa (Mike) Bruning; 16 grandchildren, Joel and Lee Casavant, Dane (Chelsea) and Daniel Cox, Suzan (Jesse) Pikturna, James and Rachael Cox, Matthew, Lucas, Jacob, Nicholas, Jonathan and Marcus Cox and Jessica, Andrea and Kevin Bruning; a great-grandson, William Cox Pikturna; five brothers, Louis (Helen) Cox, Thomas (Shirley) Cox, Hugh (Dorothy) Cox, Paul Cox and Richard (Donna) Cox; and a sister-in-law, Marge Cox.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, James; two brothers, Clete (Dorothy) Cox and Roger Cox; and a sister, Dorothy (Pete) Schilling.
