Dorothy was born Dec. 29, 1931 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Kerrigan O'Hara, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a 1949 graduate of Ursuline High School, was a homemaker, and worked as a bookkeeper for Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Campbell Works, and for her family's business, Thornton & Son Mechanical Contracting.
Mrs. Thornton was a member of Sacred Heart Church (St. Angela Merici Parish) in Youngstown, and its Ladies Guild. Dorothy was also a member of the East Side Civics Ladies Auxiliary.
Dorothy leaves her beloved husband of 58 years, Thomas Thornton, whom she married July 14, 1953; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Deborah Thornton of Youngstown; her grandchildren, Heather Thornton of Chicago, Tom Thornton of Philadelphia, and Jimmy Thornton of Boardman; and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Thornton Sandine.
Dorothy will be truly missed by all who loved her.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Bryan Thornton, who passed away in 1998, and Michael Thornton, who passed away in 2000. A sister, Loretta Hess, two brothers, Robert and Raymond O'Hara, a nephew, Joey Hess, and a niece, Maureen O'Hara, are also deceased.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Monday (3/26) at the funeral home, and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 400 Lincoln Park Drive, Youngstown.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
