FREMONT -- Christine "Teenie" Stancill Whitford, 79, passed away Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fremont United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.

Teenie was the 13th child born to the late Wiley and Malissa Stancill Jan. 6, 1931, in Pitt County.

Teenie was very active in her church and her community. She volunteered for the American Red Cross for many years and loved being a homemaker.

Teenie is survived by a son, Tom Whitford and wife, Diane, of Wilmington; a daughter, Ella Setliff and husband, Paul, of Fremont; a sister, Myrtle S. Strickland of Fremont; and four grandchildren, Chrissy Setliff, Rebecca Setliff, Christian Whitford and Tyler Whitford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. "Pete" Whitford; a grandson, John Paul Setliff; eight brothers; and three sisters.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be directed to Fremont United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 147, Fremont, N.C., 27830.
