Harlan Fredrick was born, raised & lived his entire life on the Butterbrodt Family Farm in Tipton, IA. He was baptized on 18 Oct 1914 and was confirmed on 05 May 1929 in the Peace Evangelical Church in Bennett, IA. In 1933, at age 19, he graduated from Tipton Community School in Tipton, IA. He married Lucille Marian Wentzel on 29 Jun 1939 in Davenport. After Harlan's father (Fred W.) died in 1953, Harlan purchased the family farm from his silbings on 01 Mar 1954. Harlan & Lucille were members of the United Church of Christ in Tipton. They had two sons: Lynn Arlan (b: 02 Aug 1943) and Vaughn Lee (b: 31 Aug 1945). Throughout his farming career, Harlan raised cattle, pigs, chickens and farmed rotating crops of corn & soy beans. He died of lymphoma complications in Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA, on 01 Feb 2000. He was cremated, with part of his ashes being scattered & mixed into his beloved farm soil and part buried in the Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, IA. NOTE: In 1999, the Butterbrodt Family Farm was awarded the honor of being a "Iowa Century Farm", meaning it has been owned by the Butterbrodt family for 100 years (1898-1998). In 2012, it is still owned by the Butterbrodt Family.
