Walton Harris 1760; d. 7/4/1818 Greene Co, GA), Winifred Lanier (b. 1747 Brunswick Co, VA; m-1st: Drury Ledbetter about 3/20/1762; settled in Anson Co, NC; m-2nd: James McClesky in GA d. about 1845), Ann Lanier (b. 1760? Brunswick Co, VA; m-1st: William Moore; m-2nd: Maj. Thomas Vaughn; d. 2/8/1833 Williamsboro, Granville Co, NC), Agnes Lanier (b. about 1750, Brunswick Co, VA; m. William Davis, Revolutionary soldier; d. 2/21/1813 Wilkes Co, GA-- their daughter was Caroline Amelia Davis who married Saunders Walker Faver), Lewis Lanier (b. about 1753-6, Brunswick Co, VA; Patriot--reportedly crossed the Delaware River with George Washington; m. Ann Butler 9/21/1778; d. 2/12/1839). Sampson Lanier died 9/1757.

father's will a slave woman Juda plus " two cows and calves two cows and pigs one feather bed bolster a blankett and rugg and a pair of sheets two pueter dishes three peuter plates one good chest one iron pott". Married-1st: Lucy Briggs, daughter of Samuel Briggs and Mary Bailey; married-2nd: Ann Petway Mason, daughter of Robert Petway, widow of Isaac Mason; Richard Lanier died 1780-81, Sussex Co, VA.
5. Elizabeth "Eliza" Lanier, born ca 1719. Received in her father's
will a slave woman Mou and her increase. Married ca 1740 John Burch, son of Richard Burch and Jane ?. Their children were: Samuel Burch (b. 1741; m. Elizabeth Holt 5/1/1764; killed in Mississippi Territory 1779), William Burch (b. 1765), Paulina Burch (b. 7/25/1768; m-1st: William Ferguson; m-2nd: 7/31/1806 James Chamberlain; d. 1/19/1849 Jefferson Co, MS), John Burch (b. ca 1770; m. Louisiana Thomas; d. 9/5/1834, Jefferson Co, MS), Washington Burch (b. 1774 in Allegheny Mountains while the family was moving to Mississippi; m. Nancy Stowers; d. 10/4/1839), Samuel Burch (b. ca 1776). Elizabeth Lanier died in 1795 in Brunswick Co, VA.
6. Lemuel Lanier, born about 1722 in Surry Co, VA. Moved with his parents into Brunswick Co, VA. Received in his father's will a slave Agge plus "one feather bed and bolster a pair of sheets a rug and a blankett two pueter dishes and three pueter plates two cows and
calves one heifer one young mare bridle and saddle and all the hogs that is called his and a gang of hoggs that yoused with the same one iron pot and frying pann"; he also received the labor of the slave Randol until his brother James came of age. Married-1st there Molly Peebles, daughter of Jehu and Mary Peebles. Their children: Molly Lanier, Sallie Lanier, David Lanier (see his page; became a Captain in the VA Militia during the Revolution; m. Mary Hicks; they lived in Nelson Co, VA; bought property from Patrick Henry). Married-2nd Elizabeth (M?) in 1761. Their children: Nancy Lanier, Benjamin Lanier, Washington Lanier. In 4./1772, Lemuel bought land in the new county Pittsylvania which became Henry Co, in 1777. Lemuel died 1786, Henry Co, VA.
7. James Lanier, born after 11/11/1724 (the date of his grandfather's will). Received in his father's will a slave Randol plus " two cows and calves two sows and piggs two pueter dishes two pueter plates one iron pott or kettle one young mare one small saddle and bridle one feather bed bolster a pair of sheets a rugg and a blankett". Married 1746 Mary Cooke, daughter of Henry Cooke, in Brunswick Co, VA. Their children: Henry Lanier (b. 10/3/1747; d. young), Nathaniel Lanier (b. 11/15/1749; m. Mary ?; was a Patroler during the Revolution), Lydia Lanier, Abbie Lanier (b. 3/29/1754), Isom or Isham (b. 10/22/1756; m. Catherine Underwood; d. 1823), James Lanier (b.2/2/1759 Brunswick Co,
GA; m. Sarah Chalmers; served in Revolutionary War; went to KY), Mary Lanier, Henry Lanier (b. 1765; m. Lucy Massey, daughter of Thomas Massey, Revolutionary War soldier, and Mary Peebles; moved to Greene Co, GA; d. 1821), Lucretia Lanier (b. 8/28/1769), Sampson Lanier (b. 11/3/1770 in Pitt Co, NC; m. Elizabeth Massey, Lucy's sister; d. 1/31/1823, Rockingham Co, NC). In 4/1760 James Lanier sold his Brunswick Co, VA property where he and Mary were living. In 1761, he began to acquire many grants of land in Pitt Co, NC. In 1778, he acquired a tract of land on Troublesome Creek in Guilford Co, NC. he was a Justice member of the Committee of Safety 1775, member, deputy and later chairman of the Provincial Congress. His will was probated in Pitt Co, NC in 1786; his wife Mary, son Nathaniel, with David Peebles, were executors.. Through their son Sampson, James and Mary Cooke Lanier's great-grandson was the poet Sidney Lanier
