Lemuel is the son of Sampson Lanier and Elizabeth Washington
Moved with his parents into Brunswick Co, VA. Received in his father's will a slave Agge plus "one feather bed and bolster a pair of sheets a rugg and a blankett two pueter dishes and three pueter plates two cows and calves one heifer one young mare bridle and saddle and all the hogs that is called his and a gang of hoggs that yoused with the same one iron pot and frying pann"; he also received the labor of the slave Randol until his brother James came of age.
Lemuel married-1st Molly Peebles, daughter of Jehu and Mary Peebles.

1. Molly Lanier, born ca 1750, Brunswick Co, VA. Married John King, a Baptist minister. They went to Rockingham Co, NC before 1800. Their children: Sally King (b. 1780 VA; m. Bought a plantation in Pittsylvania Co, VA, later Henry Co, VA. They lived in Nelson Co, VA. They bought property from Patrick Henry. Died before 3/12/1806, Henry Co, VA.
Lemuel married-2nd Elizabeth (M?) in 1761.

4. Nancy Lanier, born 9/12/1766. Married on 1/17/1752, James Armstrong in Henry Co, VA. James was a Revolutionary soldier in Lt. Col. Henry Lee's Legion of Virginia Troops; James was wounded at Guilford Court House. Nancy and James went from Patrick Co, VA to Hawkins Co, TN, and later to Overton Co, TN. Their children: William Armstrong (b. 3/12/1783; d. 7/16/1784, Henry Co, VA), Elizabeth Armstrong (b. 3/12/1785; m. John Bolling Cross, son of Richard Cross and Ann Maclin; d. 5/15/1836, Jackson, TN).
5. Benjamin Lanier, born 1776, Pittsylvania Co, VA. Married Elizabeth?, died 1860-70.
6. Washington Lanier, born 1762, Brunswick Co, VA. Married Elizabeth Hicks, daughter of James and Frances Hicks in Surry Co, NC. Their children: Martha Lanier (b. 1785, Henry Co, VA; m. Jesse Ashburn, son of Dabney Ashburn; d. after 1860, Fentress Co, TN), Judith Lanier (b. 1747; m. Anderson Ashburn, brother of Jesse Ashburn who married Martha Lanier; d. after 1865), George Washington Lanier (b. 1789; m. ca 1813 to Jane Gunnells; d. before 1850 TN), Tabitha Lanier (b. 1792 VA; m. Thomas Brown), Mary Lanier (b. ca 1796 VA; m. William Brown), Robert (b. 1800 Overton Co, TN; m. Susannah ?; d. ca 1845 McLean Co, IL). Washington Lanier died before 4/4/1829, Overton Co, TN.
