Coralie Gidlow Scroggins, 90, formerly of Kinder, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2012, in Bossier City, LA after a brief illness. Services are scheduled for 10am Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at First United Methodist Church of Kinder. The Rev. Charlie Crews will officiate. Burial will follow in Kinder McRill Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder beginning Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 5-9pm with an Eastern Star Service being held at 6pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8am until time of service. Coralie was born on April 25, 1921 in Basile, LA and resided throughout her life in Gretna, LA, Pampa, TX, New Iberia, LA, Houston, TX, and, eventually returned to Kinder to settle with her husband. Coralie taught school for 33 years, covering all elementary and high school grades and subjects. Her "rule" was that she would move to another grade level whenever one of her own children entered that grade. She felt that she "had enough of that age child at home, and didn't need to have them all day in school, too!" She enjoyed reading and kept the Kinder Branch of Allen Parish Libraries busy. She was an active member of Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church of Kinder. For many years, she helped prepare for Rotary Club lunches until her health prevented her from fully participating. Coralie's 90th birthday was joyously celebrated with a surprise party with nearly 75 in attendance celebrating her life. She recently resided with her daughter and "favorite son-in-law", Phillip Morris in Converse, LA. She cherished her children and her grandchildren, and proudly displayed all their pictures on every available spot on the shelves in her special room. In her last years, you would find Coralie sitting on her front porch enjoying a book and watching her birds (especially the cardinals, because all things with the color red were her favorites). A meal of boiled crawfish and A & W Root Beer would make her eyes light up! LSU and the Saints football will miss her animated coaching! Coralie is survived by her sons, Elva Joseph "Skipper" Scroggins of Albuquerque, NM, John William "Bill" Scroggins and wife, Kay of Tyler, TX, Curtis Ray Scroggins and former wife, Carol Polito of Lafayette, Robert James "Bobby" Scroggins and wife, Linda of Alabaster, AL, Jerome Scroggins and wife, DeDe, of Iowa, LA; one daughter, Fran Morris and husband, Phil of Converse, LA; eleven grandchildren, Ginnie Scroggins of Denver, CO, John Scroggins, Jr. of Victoria, TX, Leslie Markle and husband, Bobby of Galveston, TX, Beth Scroggins of Lafayette, LA, Becky Scroggins of Lafayette, LA, Breanna Thompson and husband, Matt currently of San Francisco, CA, Michael Morris of Converse, LA, John Morris of Providence, RI, Joshua Scroggins of Ravenden Springs, AR, Crystal Broussard and husband, Daniel of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Tony Scroggins of Iowa, LA. She celebrated the welcome of her only great-grandchild, Coraline Kay Markle. She will also be fondly remembered by a host of friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elva Joseph Scroggins, Jr.; her parents, John and Winnie Gidlow; three sisters, Anne Nielsen, Peggy Chandler, and Dorcas Perkins; three brothers, Thomas Gidlow, Bob Gidlow, and Orville Gidlow, one son, Thomas Orville Scroggins; and, one grandson, Thomas Joseph (T.J.) Scroggins. Pallbearers will be John Scroggins, Jr., John Phillip Morris, Michael Morris, Becky Scroggins, Tony Scroggins, and Bobby Markle. Condolences may be sent to the family at the Ardoin Funeral Home website: www.ardoinfuneralhome.com The family wishes to express our gratitude to the staff at Promise Hospital of Bossier for their gentle and concerned care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to First United Methodist Church, 1002 5th Avenue, Kinder, LA 70648.
