Daughter of Julius and Hannah Wood of Bermuda.

After the death of her sea-captain husband, Alfred Ketchum, Elizabeth emigrated to the US in 1855 with some of her children. She settled in Washington DC, later living with her widowed daughter, Susan, who was a gifted nurse.
