Ephraim Huit/ Hewitt

Regarded as the oldest gravestone in Connecticut and is one of the oldest readable stones in the US. The gravestone is in remarkable condition.

Ephraim was married to Isabel Overton, daughter of Valentine Overton and Isabel Higgenson. She was born in 1596 in Sollihull, Warwickshire, England. She died in 1661 in Windsor, Hartford, CT.

They had four daughters: Susanna, Mercy, Lydia and Mary and one son: Nathaniel.

Susanna, Mercy, Lydia and Nathaniel were born in England, and Mary was born in America.

Valentine Overton, Isabelle's father, was Rector of All Saint's Parish Church, in Bedworth, Warwickshire.
He was the son of Biship William and grandson of Bishop William, two welknown Church of England Bishops.
More than likely, Rev. Huit, worked under Rev. Overton at the Bedworth Church.

NOTE:
Rev. Huit matriculated at Cambridge University in the year 1611, as a student at St. John's College.
The average age at admission was 16, which means his approximate year of birth would be 1595.
Also, the proximity of Sollihull, where his wife Isabel Overton lived, would possibly explain how they met.
