Edward J. Gmyr
Edward Joseph Gmyr, 63, of 212 Huntley St. died Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Gmyr was a life resident of Syracuse. He retired as a tool maker after 44 years with Prestolite Corp.
Mr. Gmyr was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of Local 964 of the United Auto Workers. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mae Backus; a son, Richard; three daughters, Janet and Pamela Gmyr, both of Syracuse, and Deborah Morse of North Syracuse; two stepsons, Ronald and Roy DePeyster, both of Syracuse; four stepdaughters, Barbara Broton of Clay, Shirley DePeyster of Solvay, Sandra Shuster of Hastings and Susan Draper of Syracuse; his mother, Viola Gmyr of Syracuse; two brothers, Walter and Chester, both of Syracuse; a granddaughter, a cousin and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday at Farone & Son Funeral Home and Sacred Heart Church at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 1500 Park St.
