Walter H. Olmer, 88, of Youngwood, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011, in Westmoreland Manor. He was born Sunday, Jan. 28, 1923, in Youngwood, son of the late Fred L. and Elizabeth A. (Farren) Olmer. He graduated from Youngwood High School, class of 1940, and from Greensburg Business School, class of 1941. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific-Asiatic Theater. He then graduated Waynesburg University, class of 1950. He was a member of Holy Cross Church, in Youngwood, where he served as an altar server, lector, usher and money counter. He was a member and past treasurer of VFW No. 211, of Youngwood, Robertshaw Retirees, co-founder of Robertshaw Golf Course, co-founder Youngwood Railroad Museum and member of Armbrust Veterans Association. He retired as a controller for Robertshaw Controls, of New Stanton. Surviving are a sister, Patricia Olmer; sister-in-law, Doris (Ray) Olmer; nieces, Bernice Ludrofsky, Geraldine (Frank) Massari, Bernadette Moffa, Ruth Ann (John) Lawrence, Sally (Jack) Spare and Nancy (Andy) Cisick-Baumgartner; nephews, James Croushore, Thomas (Andrea) Olmer, Fred (Nan) Perkey; and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Croushore, Mabel Perkey and Gertrude Skonezny; and two brothers, Fred Olmer Jr. and Raymond Olmer. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Cross Church with the Rev. Bill Berkey officiating. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery where military funeral rites will be accorded by the Armbrust Veterans Association.
