Stephen Parker was the fifth child born to John Parker, a Revolutionary War veteran, and Tabitha Westcott, both of Rhode Island. John Parker married Mary Stone on January 9, 1800 and in 1801, after the birth of their son Alvah, the young couple set off with Alvah to settle in northeast Pennsylvania, in a community originally called Abington, later renamed Waverly. They were the first of several Parker and Stone family members to settle in and populate Abington.
As stated in "History and Genealogy of the Ancestors and Some Descendants of Stukely Westcott," vol. 2, pt. 2:
"In the year of their marriage, Stephen and Mary, both twenty-one years of age, settled in Pennsylvania, where in the Abington country, he with three others, had been a pioneering prospector since 1794. In that year he was a mere lad of fifteen in a wild, unexplored country hundreds of miles from home, but he must have possessed all the daring and determination of his hardy ancestors. After nearly six years of exploring the trackless hills and vales of the new Abington country, he returned to Rhode Island for Mary."
Stephen and Mary Parker had ten children:
Alvah, 1800-1861
Delilah, 1802-1886
Sheldon Wall, 1804-1856
Charles H., 1806-1882
Mary, 1810-1845
Rebecca, 1813-1849
Asenath S., 1814-1890
Celinda, 1816-1849
Lucy Ann, 1821- 1847
Demaris, 1823-1886
Eight of the children married and most raised their many children in the Abington area.
