JAMES WILLIAM DAILEY

James William Dailey was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, near Zanesville, December 5, 1833, and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. A. Pearson, in Ottumwa, Iowa, April 6 , 1908. His wife preceded him to the other world September 4, 1902.

He was married in Muskingum county to Cecelia Jane Lacey, March 10, 1859, afterward moving to Hocking county, Ohio, where they resided until they moved to Iowa, locating near Humeston in 1865. To this union were born six children, five daughters and one son, one daughter dying in infancy. Those who survive his untimely demise were present at the funeral. They are T. H. Dailey, of Corydon, Mrs. Mary Taylor, of Des Moines, Mrs. Addie Davis, of Humeston, Mrs. Dora Bacon and Mrs. Susie Pearson, of Ottumwa, where he made his home since the death of his companion. He also leaves to mourn his departure one brother, S. H. Dailey, who lives in Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Martha Taylor, in Illinois, and other relatives and a host of friends.

He was converted in early childhood and always enjoyed the worship of his Savior to the last evening of his life; then passed to his reward before the dawn of another day, and surely his end was peaceful and his departure triumphant. He was one of the organizers and united with the First M. E. church of Humeston and was faithful to that congregation until he removed his membership to the First M. E. church at Ottumwa about two years ago, where he worshipped with unwavering faith until his death.

Brief services were held at his late home Tuesday afternoon, April 7, and Wednesday morning the remains were brought to Humeston, where the funeral services were held in the M. E. church at two o'clock, conducted by his pastor, Rev. H. W. Hargett, assisted by Rev. Vollmer, of Corydon, and the G. A. R. Post, of Humeston, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Humeston cemetery.
